Submitted by on December 6, 2011 No Comment

This episode of the fantastic comedy Community was about nothing else but love. Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism was an episode that shed light on Shirley’s past life and made the viewers’ understand her character a little more. Shirley is a character who according to the creator of the show Dan Harmon is very difficult to write and develop. He made a successful attempt in this episode to make the viewers know her at a deeper level.

Shirley seems to always have stayed on the right path. She is of sweet temperament and a traditional mom who cannot ever be found faulting. She is far away from evil and can not be taken as a mean, rude person ever. But the last episode showed another facet of her character previously unknown to the viewers and it also shed light on her and Jeff’s past connection. It depicted Shirley as an awful child who always made fun of Jeff Winger. Her never ending mockery and ridicule played a key role in the making of the Jeff we now know and love so much. This depiction of Shirley’s past contributed towards a new understanding of her act and also made her an ever more lovable person. It in a curious way also, strengthened the bond between Shirley and Jeff.

The sub plot of the show involved Troy, Abed and Annie. Annie’s OCD leads to her breaking Abed’s The Dark Knight’s special edition DVD. Troy and Annie are shown frantically trying to figure out how to fix it. Abed seems to be a wise, intuitive, know all person. This is the biggest and commonly known truth in the world of Community but he either chose to ignore the fact that Annie lied to him about the DVD or he chose to ignore her mistake. She after all did make an effort at crying and that may as well have saved her from Abed’s fury. This may mean how strong the three’s relationship is. They can sacrifice for each other and may turn a blind eye towards each others’ mistakes.

Other note-worthy parts of the episode include Abed’s ability to copy Christian Bale’s Batman voice to perfection. Jeff’s rat-tail hair style suits him well. It is such a strong reminder of the 90’s school age kids’ trend. There’s only one more episode to go on air. It is not known as for now as to when the new shows may go on air.
